Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Lawnmower Brake Cable Replacement, lever bar, s hook

Question
QUESTION: Firstly my wife says I shouldn't try to repair anything myself and she's in all likelihood the smarter of the two of us. My Mastercraft lawnmower has a throttle adjustment mechanism and brake cable both running into it.  I replaced the throttle cable successfully (much to her surprise) but broke the brake cable "S" snap while in teh process (no surprise to her on this one).  I bought a replacement Brake cable (which matches identically (legnth etc) to the old one but I can't seem to get the throttle/brake box in the correct setting to allow the "s" clip to fit in the handle allowing the handle to adjust teh brake off and on.

Not many options but I just can't seem to get the darn thing back to allow my wife to resume cutting our grass (just kidding here of course). Any suggestions would be like gold.

Kind Regards,

Dan K
