Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Lawnboy model R8237, toro dealers, good directions

Question
QUESTION: I recently tried to start up the old mans lawnboy and installed new plug, cleaned flywheel, contacts, got good spark, put gas in it, it starts but wont run, only if i keep up the prime on it. Whats wrong? I sprayed the carb out with cleaner but havent soaked it overnight, arent sure where to go from here?
ANSWER: Most likely the carb is dirty.  The carb needs to be removed, dis-assembled and cleaned with carb cleaner and compressed air.  Use air from an air compressor to blow out all the carb orfices.

Do you have any carb experience?   If not, look on the net...there are some sites that provide good directions that will apply to your carb.
Let me know if this helps.

QUESTION: Hi Eric, Ive been reading some forum answers and , Im wondering if the carb ive got is plastic? do i just replace it or can i work on it? The sn is 8465010 im pretty sure its 78- model year. Its also self propelled, I cant wait to use this puppy.

Answer
Most likely it is all plastic with a a cork float.  We still have a few parts such as floats and air filters but complete carbs are difficult to find.

I would try cleaning the carb with compressed air and carb cleaner.  You need to check the butterfly shaft on the carb. This is the part that moves freely opening and closing the carburetor plate in the center of the carb.  The shaft should open and close easily but should not have too much side-to-side play.
Are there any Lawnboy or Toro dealers in your area?  You can check with them and see if they have new or any used parts.
Let me know.
