Question
hi there, i have a murry tractor with an eleven horse motor. i bought this tractor used and i am not sure of its year i would guess and say mid 1980 to high 80s, motor is a briggs and stratten, this tractor will only run with the carburator fully choked wondering what you think, it runs rough and will stall after a while any suggestions?

Answer
Hello George:

Since this is an Older Engine of the Mid to High 1980s, I Really Require the Model and Type Numbers, Please. With this Engine they Should be Stamped Into the Blower Housing (metal engine cover) Above the Spark Plug. The Model will be 5 or 6 Numbers and the Type will be a 4 Digit with a Dash (-) and Usually a 01, 02 and ect. With these Numbers I can Locate the Proper Manual and Better Assist you. Due to the Age of the Engine you Will Need a Compression Check on the Engine, First Thing. This May Save Us a Lot of Time. If this has the Easy Start System, then Turn the Engine In Reverse Rotation and if it KICKS BACK, then Compression is Supposed to be Good. **BE CAREFULL PLEASE. ** If the Old Style Engine Without the Easy Start System, then a Compression Gauge is Required. Hope this Helps. Thanks.
