Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Troy 8-32 riding mower, proper manuals, troy bilt

Question
I have an older model Troy 8-32 riding mower with a 8 HP B&S. The smaller of the two belts split and after replacing it the mower moved every slowly in 1st gear and moved at the same slow speed in all gears as well as reverse. While trying to replace the belt the mower was turned upside down. Could that have caused this. Any idea how I can fix this problem.
