Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): j.deere riding mower transmission, sectional index, tension spring

Question
i have a 1538 hydro that has almost no forward power.  it does a little better in reverse.  The drive belt works but the rear unit just doesnt have what it takes to drive the wheels. Considering the cost to replace the rear end plus paying someone to do it, am i better off junking it and buying a new mower?

Answer
 Hello Marc:

If the Tension Spring and Belt are Tight and are Working Properly, then I Suggest you Price a Transaxle and the Labor Locally before you Decide on Repairs or Replacement of the Mower. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Mower at this Addy http://jdpc.deere.com/jdpc/servlet/com.deere.u90490.partscatalog.view.servlets.H... and Enter the Model Numbers 1538 and Click Find. Then Select the Model from the Results Area. Then Select Sectional Index. Hope this Helps. I am here if you require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.

 Good Luck
