Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): kohler magnum 18hp, air filter oil, cyd

I have a ford with a kohler magnum with a knock. Bought this used with a bad coil so number 1 cyd. was not hitting. When i had it repaired with a new coil and a air filter oil change ext. thats when we got number one cyd. working thats when we heard the knock. Not a loud knock . Should i rebuild or replace / I have a friend who does warr. work and said he had a deal on a replacement motor of another brand. How much is a rebuild or what do you suggest. I paid $400 for the mower and it looks great and every other part checks out fine. Thanks for you valuable time . Any info will be greatly taken.

 If it has been Determined that the Connecting Rod is Knocking and the Knock is Not Somethind Loose, Then I Suggest a Short Block. By the Time you Do a Proper Rebuild the Short Block will be Cheaper and Better. You Usually Get a Warranty with the Short Block. I have Stopped Doing Rebuilds. A Factory Rebuilt  Engine is Cheaper(money wise). I Dont like to Quote Prices because they Vary and Change Often. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Thanks.
