Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Craftsman push mower starting problem., craftmans, push mower

Question
Hi, I have a Craftsman 6.5 HP it said powered by Briggs Push mower.

Numbers on the Deck:
Model: 917.387390
ser. 042903m031116

Number on motor 123k62-0256-el03042358
Not for sure if that number is all there because it was engraved on a little plate hanging on the motor.

My Problem is the mower will start but runs for less than a min. and cuts off right away. It will only start with starting fluid sprayed into the crab. I cleaned the the spark plug, took off the air filter and that is what it does. It has the old style bowl carb on it. What could be the problem? If i can get this fixed i am sure it will fix my other Craftmans because they all do the SAME THING!

 Hello CJ:

Remove, Disassemble and Soak the Carburetor Overnight in Carburetor Cleaner. Then Blow Out the Passages with Compressed Air and Install New Kit. You can View a Breakdown/IPL at this Addy http://shop.briggsandstratton.com/BShopProductListingPage.asp?rsvp=0&PARENTID=0&... and Enter the Model Numbers 123K62 and the Type Numbers 0256 and Click Search. Then Select View PDF. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Thanks.

 Good Luck
