Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Old Hechinger 5 HP tiller, tiller, model numbers

Question
Sorry, John - I tried to get to the page and post the pix; it said I had to register but wouldn't let me.

SO I put the pix on my website - you can see them at http://navpooh.com/TillerMotor1.jpg and http://navpooh.com/TillerMotor2.jpg

Thanks again for all your help!

-----Question-----
John -

I found an id tag on the tiller - it's an MTD.  There are numbers on it: 219-310-372/K308B, followed on the next line by 06-019897.  I have pix of the engine also, but I can't send them to the address you gave me - no email on it :-)

Thanks for you rhelp

Mike

-----Question-----
John -

When we moved into our house there was a Hechinger 5 HP tiller - or what was left of it - in the shed.  It looks to me like parts are missing, and there are no markings on the engine itself.   Do you have any idea what kind of engine this might be and where I can find a repair manual for it?
I'd like to try to salvage it before I cough up $500 for a new tiller.

Thanks in adfvance.

 Hello Mike:

Look on the Blower Housing (Metal Engine Cover) above the Spark Plug or Above the Muffler. This is where the Older Mowers had the Model Numbers STAMPED INTO the Blower Housing. If you can Locate the Numbers, then Send them to me, Please. With the Numbers I can Locate a Breakdown/IPL and Better Assist you. If the Numbers Are Not STAMPED into the Blower Housing, then Send a Picture of the Engine and Tiller to this Addy http://answermanjbridger54.spaces.live.com/ and I can View the Photo and Possibly Assist you Also. This OEM used Both Briggs and Tecumseh Engine on their Equipment. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Thanks.

 Hello Mike:

You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Tiller at this Addy http://www.partstree.com/parts/ and Enter the Brand  MTD and the Model Numbers 219-310-372 and Click Go. This will take you to the Online Files for the Breakdown/IPL for this Tiller. The Engine should be a Briggs and Stratton. You can Post the Pictures at the My Space Web Page for me to View and then I will Delete them when I'm Finished Looking at them. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Thanks.

Answer
 Hello Mike:

Ok Thx I Checked my Website and Located the Problem. I didnt know about the Setting for Others to Post on the My Space Site. I Corrected the Problem and Now Others wont have the Same Problem. I Looked at your Engine and it is a Briggs Engine. Looking Down on the Engine; there should be Make Model and Type Numbers Stamped Into the Blower Housing(Metal Engine Cover) that holds the Recoil Starter. Remove the Paint with a Flat Screw Driver and the Numbers should become more Visible. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Thanks.

 Good Luck
