Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): lawn mower repair, feeler gage, briggs and stratton

Question
How do you adjust the overhead valve on briggs and stratton lawn tractor, model 287707 type 1224-e1

Answer
 Hello Jerry:

Use a Flat Feeler Gage and Set the Gap Between the Valve Stem and the Tappet or Arm to the Specified Clearance. The Adjustment is Either a Center Bolt for the Rocker Arm or a Threaded Stud on the Rocker Arm at the Contact Point of the Tappet. This is Usually a Double Locked Stud in the Rocker Arm. A few have a Valve Stem that Threads for Adjustment, but it has been a Long while since I have seen one. I didn't look up this engine because it was Posted in Dec 06. I have been Away from the PC for 3 Months and Catching up on some of the Questions that Haven't been Answered for One Reason or Another. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Thanks.

 Good Luck
