Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Blades will not disengage, problem thanks, pulley

I have a Craftsman Riding Mower Model # 917.256522 and the blades will not disengage. The lever will not travel completely to the disengage point and feels to bind. I cannot see where it is binding. Any ideas on how to fix this problem. Thanks.

Did you remove the deck and carefully check for worn parts?
Before removing the deck, check the belt routing to ensure the belt did not fall off a pulley or belt guide.

If you can find anything binding on the lever mechanism then the problem is likely a worn pivot part on the deck.
