Motorcycle Repair: I just read an article about..., crisp response, ebay

Question
I just read an article about adjusting a 1980 XR Carburetor.  I don't know
half as much as the guy writing the article.  I have 2 XR 80 circa 1980.
Neither run.  I have bought a carburetor on ebay that should be here
soon.  I read that you had many files on carburetors and could use as
much if not all of the direction given in those articles.

I have taken the carburetors off and cleaned them thoroughly.  I might
have moved the screws and would like directions on setting them.  Please
indicate by location which screw is which.
Thanks
Clar

Answer
Hi Clar,

Can you send me your email address?

I return tech files via email. There was no email addy with your question as requested.

The screw with the needle point tip is the air/fuel screw. The blunt end screw is the throttle slide stop or idle screw.

Each screw will only fit in it's respective location.

Set idle screw to appropriate engine idle rpm.

Seat the A/F screw gently and back it out about two turns to start. Adjust by turning screw in/out with 1/4 turn incriments until throttle has crisp response off idle.
