Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): lawn mower leaking oil, j b weld, oil plug

Question
As I was changing the oil for the winter I had difficulty getting the plug out because it was stripped so I went to the next plug it was attached to and as I was screwing that one back into the block it cracked something I believe and as time went on I found a puddle of oil which really did not surprise me-It could be as simple as I did not get that tight enough but really doubt it because it was a really bear at first but then it got easy as I kept tightening it and that's when my intuition told me to stop and something wasn't right. Got any suggestions

Answer
could you please give me alittle more imformation on this.   is it what  you see a plastic oil plug??? which some are.   or is it a steel  threaded plug??
also  is it the plug in bottom  of engine, on a push mower ?   or on side of engine?  is it a riding mower or ?
reason for all of this is.   if a plastic plug, you can get a threaded steel plug at your local hardware store and replace it. it may have cracked.  put thread seal on it.   it will be a normal  PIPE THREAD PLUG.  normally  3/8 inch  or 1/2 inch.
if it is steel  you may have cracked the housing or engine body it threads into.  this will either have to be replaced witch bolts on  as part of the engine block, being the oil sump pan. OORRRR   you may  be able to try a thing called "J.B.WELD" around the plug area, after it is threaded in , cleaned and dried very well, and left to sit for a bit of time.
 hopefully this will help you.
you may let me know  and we can go from here.
