Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): 18.5 hp briggs & stratton starter, briggs stratton, hp briggs

I have a model 40a700 series twin opposed cylinder B&S engine on my MTD riding mower. The starter has gone out and I need to replace it or rebuild it. Will I need to remove the flywheel to have access to the inside bolt?

 Hello Jack:

 You can take a Combination Wrench and Reach the Bolt and Turn it Out. Then Lift the Bolt Enough to Remove the Starter. It's a Slow Process, but it Easier than Removing the Flywheel. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks. Be Safe.
