Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Gas-powered engines under water, crankcase oil, blower housings

Question
I have two gas-powered small engines, a Poulan Leaf Blower and a Generator, that were partially submerged in water during a recent flood.  Neither engine will start.  I have replaced the fuel.  Can you offer me any hope for these engines or should I replace them and move on?

Answer
 Hello Michael:

Have you Drained the Crankcase Oil and Cleaned Under the Blower Housings? If the Equipment hasn't Set too Long there should be Little Damage. Thoroughly Clean the Equipment with Compressed Air and Do the Normal Diagnostics. Check for Fire and Check for Gas to the Carburetors. If you have Fire, then Pour a Small Amount of Gas into the Carburetor Throat and Try to Start the Engine. What Happens? Trash and Sand from the Water Must be Cleaned from Under the Blower Housing(metal Engine Cover. Use Compressed Air should be used to Clean the Equipment for Restart. Don't forget the Mufflers May need to be Replaced. Sand and Dirt from the Water can Settle in the Mufflers and Clog them. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks. Be Safe.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully
