Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Oil Leak, sears craftsman, pan gasket

Question
The mower is a Sears Craftsman with the Tecumseh engine Model # 143.956000, DOM 5338k self propelled.
The engine would start and shut off, start and shut off. I repaired the carb.(7)type. When I got ready to start the engine I found that very little oil was on the dip stick. I let the mower sit (24hrs.) since I had tilted the mower when removing the carb and reinstalling. I figured the oil might have drained into the muffler. I filled with oil and the engine would not start. After letting the mower sit through my lunch period I noticed Oil poring out of the front of the mower. The oil level is now about half way on the dip stick.
What has caused the leak?
Thanks for any help.

Answer
 Hello Joe:

What are you Calling the Front of the Mower? Is the Oil Leaking Near the Oil Fill Tube? The Oil Pan gasket Could be Leaking the Oil. The O-Ring on the Fill Tube May need Replacing. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks. Be Safe.

 Good Luck

 Hello Again Joe:

I saw your Post. Thanks. If you Tilted the Mower the Wrong Way; Oil May have Gotten into the Crankcase Vent/Breather. If this Happened the Oil Will Run Out of the Air Filter/Breather. Always Tilt the Engine so the Spark Plug is Up. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Thanks Again. Be Safe.

 Good Luck
