Mercedes: control arm bushings, mercedes benz 300d, control arm bushings

Question
i need to know how to change the upper contol arm bushings on a 1985 300 d

Answer
IMO, it is not worth the effort/cost, when the bushing goes bad, the joint 99% of the time needs replacment.

On my personal vehicles the whole arm would be replaced = thirty minutes work per side.

#1. Loosen Lug bolts.
#2. Support the lower control arm with a jack stand.
#3. Remove upper ball joint nut and break loose joint.
#4. Remove the mount bushing pivot bolt.
#5. Remove sway bar bolt.
#6. Drive the bushings out.
#7. Clean the bushing socket.
#8. Lube bushing and socket with water.
#9. Press in new bushings with a five ton press.
Reinstall part.
Total time per side = roughly one hour in a good shop.
