Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Troy Bilt, air mixture, new troy

Question
Hi John
I just purchased an new Troy bilt 250B, 2 cycle leaf blower

It started right up, ran for about 5 minutes and then died.  I drained the gas, went to the gas station, bought a new can, added the supplied (in the box with the unit) oil to 1 gallon of gas, and started it up again (about 1/2 hour later.  this time it ran for about 2 minutes and died again.

There are two lines from the tank to the carb, one carries fuel (you can see it in the line and the bulb) the other appears empty (air return?).

I can't imagine the carb or plugs could be fouled when it is this new?

No luck contacting Troy Bilt.
Any help would be appreciated.

Answer
 Hello Duncan:

The Empty Line is a Return from the Primer Bulb. Press the Primmer Until you See the Gas Return Through this Line. Then Start the Engine. Run the Engine Until it Quits. **BE CAREFUL HOT ENGINE** Remove the Spark Plug and Check for Spark. If you have Spark, then Check the Gas Tank Cap. Is it Venting the Tank. If a Vacuum Build in the Tank, the Carburetor Pump Cant Pull the Fuel from the Tank. If the Tank Cap is Good, then Turn the Air Mixture Screw(or Screws) Counter Clockwise 1/4 Turn. If Any of this Did Not Cure the Running Problem, then Return the Blower. Sometimes the Internal Carburetor Pump will Stick. It Not a Major Problem but it Does Happen. If Possible, Start Any Equipment Before Taking It Home. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully

 John
