Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): log splitter wont start, starter fluid, log splitter

Question
Hello John,

My yard machine hydraulic log splitter will not start. It was left outside all spring and summer and the tarp covering it came loose and blew away.
I have changed the air filter, the spark plug, emptied the gas tank and put in fresh fuel, removed the spark plug cover and wiped off some of the build up and I have tried using starter fluid to get it going. There is “water” on the plug which I must remove each time I attempt to start the machine to spray in starter fluid. This is the only way I can get it to crank for 1-2 seconds, then it dies. I am going to empty the gas tank again-completely, let it dry, refill it with fresh gas, and then try again. If you have any suggestions, it would be most appreciated.
Thank you-Elaine

Answer
 Hello Elaine:

From your Description it Sounds like the Carburetor needs to be Cleaned and Rebuilt. Remove and Disassemble the carburetor and Soak Overnight in Gunk Carburetor Cleaner. Then Blow Out the Passages with Compressed Air. Install New Kit. Send me the Make, Model, Type and Code Numbers Off of the Engine and I can Locate a Breakdown/IPL if the Engine and Carburetor and Better Assist you. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully

 John
