Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Starter Problem, john deere 212 garden tractor, john deere 212

Question
I have a John Deere 212 garden tractor. When I try to start I usually just get a "click" when I turn the key. I find if I tap the starter a few times I can get the starter to engage, then it works fine. Is this a starter problem, solenoid, or possibly something else? Thanks

Answer
 Hello Kelly:

If the Starter Engages when you are Tapping on the Starter, then it Sounds like the Bushings and Brushes are Worn and the Starter needs to be Replaced. The Starter Part Number is AM34361. MAke Sure the Voltage in the Battery is at Least 11.0VDC when you are Trying to Start the Engine. You can View this Mower in Breakdown/IPL Form at this Addy http://jdpc.deere.com/jdpc/servlet/com.deere.u90490.partscatalog.view.servlets.H... and Enter the Model Numbers 212 and Click Find. Then Click on the Model in the Search Results Area. Then Select Sectional Index. Then Click on the Model Number. From here you can View the Mower. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully
