Question
Hello again,

It was was the fuse. Now another problem, the tractor ran great for more than an hour, but it sputtered from time to time. Sometimes it would barely run with the choke on. Sputtered off a few times, after I let it sit it would start up. Do I need to clean the carb?
Thanks for your help,
John

-----Question-----
My tractor is 3 yrs old and 90hours of use.
MODEL CV4905
First it would stop running after 10 minutes, so I took the gas cap off and it ran fine. How do I fix the vacuum problem? After 20 minutes of use the tractor completely shut off, no click, no reading, no lights. checked battery it is fully charged. The clutch has been a little touchy before to start, had to be completed depressed. Help! is this something I could tackle? I know enough to be dangerous.
Thank you,  John B.

 Hello John:

Clean the Vent in the Gas Cap or Replacing the Gas Cap will Cure the Vacuum Problem in the Tank. Send me the Sears Model Numbers, Please. With these I can Locate a Breakdown/IPL of the Mower and Better Assist you. It May be the Clutch Safety is Heating Up or there is a Relay on the Frame Under the Seat on Some Model Mowers that Cause this Problem. The Model Numbers will Help me Determine if there is a Relay on this Mower. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.

 Good Luck

 Hello John:

Go to this Addy http://www3.sears.com/ and Click the Box Lawn Equipment. Then Enter the Model Numbers 917.273130 and Click Continue. Verify the Equipment is Correct and Click Continue. Select the View Diagram of the Electrical System. In the Diagram the Part Number 81 is a Relay. There should be 3 of them Under the Seat on the Frame. Usually 1 of these 3 Relays is the Cause of this Problem. They are All the Same Relay. As for the Clutch Safety Switch, The Clutch is Designed to be Depressed Even if the Brake is Locked. There is Just Enough Clearance from the Safety Switch that the Pedal Must be Depressed for the Starter to Engage. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.

 Hello John:

Did you Check the Fuse? I Sometimes Forget to Mention the Fuse. I am Sorry. It's been so Natural for me to Automatically Check the Fuse that I Don't Ask the Question. :-(   I Guess I Owe you 1 this Time. If the Fuse is Blown, then Replacing the Relay was a Good thing in that, the Relay is Usually the Cause for the Fuse to Blow. If the Fuse Blows Again, then Replace the Fuse and Restart the Engine. Rev to Full Throttle and Check the Voltage at the Battery. It the Voltage is Higher than 14.6VDC, then the Regulator or the Stator is the Problem. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.

Answer
 Hello Again John:

It can be 2 things. 1- the Coil/Magneto is Breaking Down and Causing an Intermittent Spark or 2- the Carburetor has Trash/Water in it and the Trash/Water is Clogging the Main Jet Temporarily and Causing the Stutter. If you are Using the Choke to Assist the Engine in Getting Fuel, then Rebuild the Carburetor First. Then Replace the Coil/Magneto if the Carburetor Cleaning and Rebuild Doesn't Correct the Problem. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.
