Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): 12HP Briggs wont start why?, engine model type, compression stroke

Question
Time is set dot to dot ..and valve clearance, not sure what you mean? Would the magneto at the top where the coi connects, gap setting too far apart, stop it from starting?

Answer
With the piston at top dead center on the compression stroke, measure the valve tapped to valve stem clearance between the intake and exhaust valve.

You will need a feel gauge.
The clearance should be between .004-.010 of an inch.  Send me you engine model, type and code numbers so I can look up the clearance specs.
