Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Toro mower - broken belt, drive pulley, engine bolts

Question
What I still don't know is -

(1.) Is the drive belt pulley a smaller (out of sight) pulley closer to the engine than the first belt I encounter?

(2.)  If so, it did seem like loosening the engine might be the preferred option - is there anything tricky about putting things back together?  Thanks,  - Randy

Question -

Mine is a Toro self-propelled mower 1989 model 26622, with a broken propulsion belt.  This is not the belt I see when I took off the blade and bottom cover - that one is OK).  Not sure what needs to be removed to replace the V-belt. Local shop charged 2 hours when my wife had this replaced 6 years ago.  It it really tricky or did she just get taken to cleaners?  Thanks,  - Randy

Answer -
Sometimes it is actually easier to remove the engine mounting bolts and slide the engine backwards or forwards to remove the belt.

If you have a variable speed model then you can remove the blade, blade adapter and then one half of the pulley.

In either case you will have to remove the blade but removing the engine bolts maybe the best method.

Let me know if this helps.

Answer
The drive pulley will be attached to the crankshaft, so it may be hidden out of site by a belt cover.

A good cleaning/scrubbing will help as you can see what needs to be removed.

I can't recall anything tricky about putting it back together.  It may be nice to take a digital picture before and as you take things apart just in case you need some reference when putting it back together.

Let me know if this helps.
