Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Craftsman Eager-1 oil leak, craftsman eager 1, steering wheel puller

Question
Thanks, John.  A quick follow-up if you don't mind.  The engine is a Tecumseh model 143.006714. Before I do anything else, I want to make sure the crankcase isn't building up pressure.  I assume the vent to which you referred is the breather - correct?  Is the breather up under the flywheel also?  Thanks - appreciate the help.

Question -
I have a five year old Craftsman Eager-1 mower that has begun to leak a very significant amount of oil from the top of the engine. I removed the blower housing and fuel tank, and it appears that the oil is coming from under the flywheel. A couple of questions for you.  First, can the flywheel be removed without a wheel puller? Also, I looked at a parts diagram and located an oil seal on the shaft.  Would it be likely that this seal would go bad after only five years? Even if it is bad, wouldn't the crankcase need to be building up pressure to blow oil out the top?  Any thoughts would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Answer -
 Hello Tony:

The Crankcase has a Vent that is Supposed to Vent the Pressure and Keep the Oil from Being Sucked into the Carburator. If the Vent isnt Working the Pressure will Build up in the Crankcase and Oil will be Pushed Out the Weakest Seal. A Steering Wheel Puller is Require to Remove the Flywheel. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.

 Hello Tony:

Yes the Crankcase Vent(breather) is Located Under the Edge of the Flywheel. The Diagram Number is 7 (part #36557) on Page 1 of 5. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.
