Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): John Deere L110, john deere l110, hp engine

Question
Hi John,
My JD L110 with a Kohler 17.5 hp engine was running fine. it is two years old and with 150 hours.I have done regular maintainance on it.I took it out of my garage and parked it on the lawn. A few hours later it would not start. I finally got it to start at half throttle(with a lot of back firing) but it has hardly any power. I replaced all filters, drained the gas and put fresh gas, and replaced the spark plug but it still has no power. I also removed the carburetor and sprayed it with carb cleaner and blew it out with air.Any ideas as to what it could be?

Answer
 Hello Pat:

Check the Oil Level. Is it Overfilled? Does the Oil have a Gas Smell to it? Check the Compression. A Blown Headgasket or the Valve Lash Out of Adjustment will Cause this Problem. Never Spray Carburator Cleaner nto a Carburator. The Spray Cleaner just Loosenes the Varnish and Makes Everything Worse. You May need to Clean and Rebuild the Carburator. From your DescriptionI Suggest the Valve Lash and then the Headgasket. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Mower at this Addy http://jdpc.deere.com/jdpc/servlet/com.deere.u90490.partscatalog.view.servlets.H... Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully
