Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Starter eating gears!!, hp briggs, mechanical problems

Question
John,
Not a question, just a THANK YOU! Once I got the part I've not had any other problems with it. Had to go to Indianapolis (1 hour away) to get it. They had "37" of them.
Thanks again
Greg

Question -
I have a 18 hp Briggs (422700). The coil went out earlier this spring. My neighbor repairs them so I put on a "used" coil everything was fine. Then The starter gear went out. He replaced that and it chewed that one up. I don't know if the gear is getting pushed back down after engine starts. Is the started bad? Could it have to do with the used coil? Or both?

Answer -
 Hello Greg:

I have never Heard of or Seen a Coil Causing this Problem. The Starter Gear May be Staying Engaged to the Flywheel. Is the Starter Ring on the Flywheel Secure? Does the Engine Seem to Have a Compression Problem when you Are Starting the Engine? The Bad Ignition Switch can be Engaging the Starter without your Knowledge while you are Operating the Mower. Thanks.

 Respectfully

 John
