Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Murray Lawn Mower Engine Surges, plug gap, carburator

Question
Hi John,

I have a 2 year old Murray push mower.  When I start the engine it runs for maybe a minute and then the engine starts to surge or cycle, like the governor is trying to control the engine speed.  Runs like that all the time then.  Have cleaned the air cleaner and even removed it, but still happens.  Any suggestions?

Thanks
Brian

Answer
 Hello Brian:

From your Description it Sounds like the Main Jet in the Carburator is Restricted or the Spark Plug isnt Gapped Correctly. The Plug Gap is .035in. Remove the Carburator and Disassemble it. Then Soak the Carburator Overnight in Cleaning Solution(Gunk carburator Cleaner) and then Blow Out all the Passages with Compressed Air. Install Kit. I am here if you require more Assistance. Send me the Make, Model, Type and Code Numbers Off of the Engine, Please. With these Numbers I can Locate a Breakdown/IPL of the Engine nd Better Assist you. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully

 John
