Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): smoking motor, briggs and stratton, toro wheel horse

Question
Hello John,
I purchased a Toro wheel horse 38" recycler mower in 2001. It's a briggs and stratton 16 hp ohv motor, model 28q777 type 0690-e1. My yard is quite hilly and every once in awhile it will smoke like oil is on the muffler. I tore the motor down to the bare essentials and noticed alot of gunk by the front cover where the ohv's are. I cleaned it up and ran it for a short while but couldn't find anything. Should I bring it in to a pro?
                    Thanks, Charlie

Answer
 Hello Charlie:

From your Description I Suggest you Check the Crankcase Vent. If the Vent isnt Working Properly, it will Allow Oil to Enter the Carburator and Smoke when on a Hillside or an Angle. You can View a Breakdown of this Engine at this Addy http://www.outdoordistributors.com/ and Select B. Then Select Briggs and Stratton. Then Select Dont have Part Numbers. Then Select File # 28. The Locate your Model and Click. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully

 John
