Question -
I have have a 1991 Onan P224G on a portable band mill that has 950 hrs. with good maintenance and care. My problem is 2-3 hours ago it began to run a little rough when it was idled down, was difficult to start especially when cold and has gotten progressively worse to the point where it won't run at all at or near idle. At operating speed it will hunt slightly but no loss of power. I've run it about 12-14 hours in the past 2 weeks so it has had fresh gasoline thru it. About 20 hours ago it had an oil and filter change, fuel and air filter change. Plugs are fairly clean with proper gap. The clear in-line filter just before the carb is full of fuel so it isn't starved for fuel. The exhaust is clear. The gov linkage appears to be tight( little or no wear) and not binding. Did a compression test that showed excellent compression in both cylinders. Also, it is due for checking the valve clearance- what is procedure for that task?

Answer
 Hello Tom:

I found a Breakdown at this Addy http://www.donhillmaninc.com/Engines/engine.htm. Scroll Down Until you see your Model Number and Click on it. I Suggest you Check the Valve Clearance and then the Carburator. I have had 1 or 2 Onans that had a Coil Problem causing the same Problem. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully

 John
