Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): BORING CYLINDERS, rough cut, piston

Question
Sir:
The specs for my KOHLER K301 engine indicates two values for the bore of a new engine (I assume these to be the high and low limitsof the bore.) There is also a maximum wear value.

This engine may be rebored to .010,or.020, or .030. My question is; Which of the original spec value does one use as the base?

In other words...if the cylinder is to be rebored to .010 over. which spec. value does one use as the base to add .010?     THANKS    JIM

Answer
 Hello Jim:

The Value is Both the High and Low Limits of Bore. You use both Figures and this will give you the High and Low Limits for Boring the Cylinder .010 Over, .020 Over ect. However Most Machine Shops Match the Piston to the Cylinder. They do a Rough Cut to Within so many .001 and then Fine Cut to Match the Cylinder and Piston. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. I enjoy knowing the Outcome. Thanks.

 Good Luck
