Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Murray Mower, murray riding mower, murray mower

Question
Hi John
Thanks for the info.  I called Murray and they stated they will not be able to get me a breakdown manual.  They did tell they manufactured the transaxle themselves, it has FOOTE stamped on both sides.  Quick question what can I clean the gears and housing with as sludge is a built up everywhere, also could explain to me where to put the indend balls at, wihtout looking at my unit.

All the great help is appreciated..
Thanks Mike

Question -
I recieved a Murray riding mower with a 10HP/30in model# 0-30550A. The only thing is that is dont shift into any gears.  I am mechnically inclined with auto's, so I removed it from the mower.  When I took the transaxle apart I noticed that all the grease is built up and the gears don't move freely.  Also  I found two BB's that fell out.  I noticed that the gear shifter did not move freely niether. I tapped it out of the housing and put it back and when I put it back it rotates. I guess my question is what might be the problem, (why dont it shift into to gear).  What kinda of grease do I need to put into the housing, how much and how can i clean the housing and gears to put it back together. Thanks anything will help.

 Hello Michael:

On the Transaxle is a Tag. On this Tag is the OEMs Name and the Model Numbers of the Transaxle. Send me this Information, Please. With this Information I can Locate a Breakdown of the Transaxle for you to View Online. Use 80W90 Gear Lube and Fill the Case 1/2 Way. Since you are this Far into the Transaxle, I suggest you Completely Disassemble the Transaxle and Clean All the Components. The Breakdown will Assist you in Doing this. The BB's are the Shifter Indend Balls. Rust is Likely the Cause for the Problem you are having with the Transaxle. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. I enjoy knowing the Outcome. Thanks.

Answer
 Hello Mike:

White Kero is Good to Clean the Inside of the Transaxle with. **DO NOT USE AROUND OPEN FLAMES OR HIGH HEAT** You can Go to this Addy http://m-and-d.com/dana_foote_parts.html and May find a Breakdown for your Transaxle. Simply Scroll Down to the Yellow Header and then Scroll in the Windown Under the Header to the Transaxle that is in your Mower. the Model Numbers are on the Foote Tag. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.
