Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): lawn mowers, rare occurance, spark plug

Question
Is it possible for a lawn mower to spontaneously start? I have heard that they can. But my husband says that's not possible. Where I have heard it happens is if you turn it over to inspect the blade, then suddenly it could start. Can you please shed some light on this subject? I would be very grateful.
Thanks!

Answer
 Hello Carla:

You are Correct. It is a Rare Occurance, but I have had Mowers sitting in the Shop with the Shutoff Wire Disconnected Start and No one was in the Shop at the Time. I Dont Allow anyone to Work on a Mower Without Removing the Spark Plug for this Reason. If the Conditions are Right and you Turn the Blade while Inspecting it, the Mower will Fire and Sometimes Run long enough to do Injury. **NEVER WORK ON A MOWER WITH THE SPARK PLUG INSTALLED UNTIL YOU ARE READY TO START THE MOWER** This is the Notice I have Posted on Every Wall in the Shop Area. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully

 John
