Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): BS Vanguard 20HP, two inlets, level thanks

Question
Thanks John, I will return the smaller inlet to the tank. Unfortunatly the IPL is only showing the carby and nothing refers to piping it. As the unit will be fixed near a lake, should i put the tank above the engine or at same level? Thanks again and will shortly let you know the outcome. Franco

Question -
Hi John, I bought a BS Vanguard 20HP engine (#381447) coupled to a firefighter pump(auction). The engine is without tank and i connected my existing tank to it. The carburettor has two inlets (one a tad smaller than other). On the bigger inlet there is the pump line and the second is open. When i tried to start it after overhauling it, i noticed huge discharge of gasoline from the smaller carb inlet... Do i have to return the smaller inlet to the gas tank? Do i have to ssplit the pump outlet to both inlet? Thanks for your help

 Hello Franco:

The Line is a Return Line. Most Return Lines must Return to the Tank to have the Carburator Function Properly. You can View a Breakdown of the Engine at this Addy http://shop.briggsandstratton.com/BShopProductListingPage.asp?rsvp=0&PARENTID=0& and Enter the Model Numbers and the First 4 Numbers of the Engine Type Number. Then Click Search. On the Next Page Scroll down to the 2nd Listing and Click on View PDF. Hope this Helps. Let me know what Happens, Please. I enjoy knowing the Outcome. Thanks.

 Good Luck

Answer
 Hello Franco:

If this Engine has a Fuel Pump, then you can Mount the Tank Anywhere. If it Doesnt have a Fuel Pump, then it has to be Mounted Above the Carburator Bowl. Also, the Tube the Gas Surged out of May be the Carburator Bowl Vent. Most times it is Left to Open Air. Can you send Pictures of the Carburator if I supply an Addy? Hope this Helps. Let me know what Happens, Please. I enjoy knowing the Outcome. Thanks.
