Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): B&S 4 cycle 11hp pull cord wont budge, mower deck, walk behind mower

Question
John-
Worked great- just like you said.  followed your instructions and
started and smoked white for ~5 minutes but ran strong
( probably just burning out the oil in the cylinder and carb,
right?)  I had tipped the mower up on it's left side to clean it this
time- in the past I have done it with it up on it's right side.
Thanks very much for the help.

Question -
Hello-  I have an old ( at least 10 yrs. ) John Deere 48" walk
behind mower with a B&S 400cc 11hp engine.
Model # 253706
Type # 0151-01
Code # 84121910
After cutting my lawn last week, I cleaned it off with a garden
hose spraying off the underside of the mower deck and then the
topside of the mower deck and around the engine and
transmission  housing. I had oil in it. Since doing this, I can't
move the pull cord at all to restart it.  I fear I have seized the
engine with the cold water on the hot block. Is it possible that
just the pull cord mechanism broke?  What do you think?
Thanks -
Mike

Answer -
 Hello Mike:

Remove the Spark Plug. Is there Oil in the Cylinder? If Yes, then
Turn the Engine and Push Out as Much Oil as the Engine will.
Then Pour a Small Amount of Gas into the Cylinder and Replace
the Plug a Few Turns. Shake the Mower and then Drain the
Cylinder Again. Let Stand with the Plug Out for 6 to 8 Hrs
Minimum. If you have Compressed Air Blow the Cylinder Out as
Best you can and then Let Stand. Then Check the Oil and Replace
the Plug. I Wash All my Equipment Off all the Time and have
Never Had it Happen. Also I Tell Most of my Customers to Wash
the Mower when they Finish with the Mower and Then Allow it to
Dry before Storing for the Week. I would Say you Turned the
Mower too Far on its Side when you Washed the Underside of the
Mower. The Oil Ran Out of the Crankcase Vent and Into the
Carburator Throat. This then Leaked by the Intake Valve into the
Cylinder and the Cylinder is Full of Oil. Check the Engine Brake
and Ensure it is Working Properly. Hope this Helps. Let me know
what Happens, Please. I enjoy knowing the Outcome. Thanks.

 Good Luck
