Question -
I just replaced the fuel lines from carb to filter of my Poulan Featherlite Weedeater because the line to the filter cracked and broke. I don't know the model number. Now, I can't get it to prime. I pumped 20+ times but no gas in the bulb. It seems when I press the bulb the air goes into the fuel line and when I release it, the fuel gets picked up about 3-4" into the line. But no no fuel advances up the line. It seems there should be a check valve somewhere that lest the squeeze stroke on the bulb go into the carb and the fill stroke come from the fuel line.

I took the assembly off that holds the bulb and took off this black rubber mushroom under it and fuel sprayed out of the opening where the mushroom went in. I re-installed the assmbly and reassembled the carb. There was fuel in the line. But none in the bulb. While priming the bulb did not appear to push fuel out of the line as it did before.

I tried to start the weedwacker and it ran just a bit before quitting and there was again no fuel in the line.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Ted

Was the primer bulb working before you replaced the fuel line?

Eric

Eric,
I think so, but, I cannot be completely sure. It seemed to start ok after I pushed the primer bulb. But, I did not look at it to see if it was full of fuel. I noticed the fuel filter line broken off at the fitting just inside the fuel tank when I removed the gas cap after running out of fuel.
Thanks,
Ted

Answer
Most of the Weed Eater primers did have a check valve in the system; some were in the carb and some were in the primer bulb assembly.

Did you try switching the lines?
Did the trimmer run recently or has it sat for a while?  If the lines were that bad then odds are the inside of the carb isn't much better.

Let me know.
