Question
Is the ignition coil something that a low to moderate hands on person can replace?

Question -
I have a craftsman self propeled mower with a 6.75 b&s motor. After mowing for 45 mins or so, the mower will die. After I unscrew the gas cap (to check the gas) and prime again it will start. However, it will continue to die again after a few min. I have installed a new filter, plug, and change the oil often. Thanks for your help!

The ignition coil may be going bad.  The first problem you need to tackle is to identify if the problem is spark or fuel.

I would recommed purchasing an inline ignition test at you local auto parts store.  Start and use the mower.  When the engine dies connect the spark tester and see if you have spark.  If you do then you know the coil is good and you either have a bad spark plug or a fuel problem.
Let me know what you find.

Answer
Yes, the coil is easy to replace but they are expensive and non-returnable...so you need to know for sure if the coil is good or bad.  An inline ignition tester is cheap and very accurate in determining if the coil is good or bad.

The coil is located under the top cover of the engine.
