Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): 18 HP Craftsman rider-Kohler engine, bad hope, mandrel

Question
My rider has recently started cutting uneven(this season) and now is having problems pulling up even the slightest upgrade or incline.  I also recently had to replace the battery(just died)..don't know if its related to the current problem. Could the drive or deck belt(s)have become loose/worn causing it not to be able to pull up an incline?

Answer
 Hello Jim:

Send me the Model Numbers Off of the Mower and Off of the Engine, Please. With these Numbers I can View a Breakdown of the Mower and the Engine and Better Assist you. However, Check the Mandrel/Quill Assemblies on the Deck for Bad/Binding Bearings. Have Someone Engage the Blades while you Watch the Mandrel/Quill Assemblies. If the Pulleys Tilt when the Belt is Tightened then the Bearings are Bad and Allowing the Blades to Tilt when the Belt is Tightened. Check for a Bent Blade. Improper Tire Pressure will cause Uneven Cut Also. Is the Engine Starving for Gas when Climbing a Grade? If Not, then Check the Drive Belt for the Transaxle. If you need Instructions on Leveling the Deck, let me know. Check the Charging System. With the Engine Running Full Throttle, The Battery Voltage should Read at Least 12.8VDC to 14.0VDC. If the Voltage is Less than 12.5VDC then the Stator or the Regulator(depends on model of engine) is Bad. Hope this Helps. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully

 John
