Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Lawn Mower, sears craftsman, gas leak

Question
I have a sears craftsman 6.75 hp mulching mower.  The model number is 917.388680.  Gas is leaking from the area where you have to push the rubber tab to prime the mower.  The gas is leaking into the air filter then dripping through the filter.  How do I stop the the gas leak?

Answer
The best solution to your problem is to remove, dis-assemble and clean the carb with compressed air and carb cleaner.

With the carb clean, the next step is to replace the inlet needle and seat.  The seat or needle casues the gas to leak.

With that said, you may be albe to just drain the carburetor bowl.  By doing this you may remove the debris that caused the problem.  Sometimes the float sticks a little and causes the problem temporarily.

Let me know if this helps.
