Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Troy bilt tractor deck belt, pat answer, troy bilt

Question
Thanks for responding so quickly.  It is a 1995 Troy-Bilt "Pony" lawn tractor, model# 12AN779G766.  I have an electronic copy of the owner's manual, but the instructions for deck belt removal/replacement are minimal and don't address this step.

Question -
I had my troy bilt pony (42") riding tractor repaired (blades
replaced).  Shortly thereafter the deck cable broke.  I replaced it and tried
to run the mower, only to discover that the deck belt was improperly
installed--it was smoking and shredding.  I took out the broken belt and
bought one to replace it.  My problem is that I can't figure out how to
get the belt onto the deck idler pulleys--the gap is too small and the
nuts holding the pulleys either just turn without loosening (left side)
or won't turn at all (right side).  My manual tells how to get the belt
off of the left hand pulley, but then stops with no further
instructions.  Please help!

Thanks,

Pat

 Hello Pat:

Send me the Model Numbers Off of the Mower, Please. With these I can View a Breakdown of the Mower and Deck Assembly and Better Assist you. Designs Change and I Prefer to give Information after Viewing the Mower in Question. Thanks.

Answer
 Hello Pat:

Go to this Addy http://www.partstree.net/parts.asp and Click on Parts Look Up. I cannot find a 12AN779G766. I Show a 13AN779G766. However the Deck Should be the Same. After the Page for the Parts Look Up comes up, then Select Troy Bilt and Enter the Model Numbers 13AN776G766 and Click Search. When the Model Shows, Click on the Model. Go to Illustrated Parts List and Choose the File for the Deck Assembly. This will Show you How the Idlers are Assemblied and Hopefully Help you Remove the Idlers to Install the Belt. Hope this Helps. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully

 John
