Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): 15hp brigs wiring, safety switches, puff of smoke

Question
Finished mowing, pulled in garage, turned off switch and parts went everywhere. There was also a small puff of smoke comming from switch area. Picked up new switch, and replaced it. Now no start, just turns over. Checked out plug on both switches to see any difference, one had a "W" where the other has an extra "S", but other than that they were the same. The diodes in the wiring seem to be good, but the only way I know of to check them is with a VOM. Current on stripe end and none on the plane end. Any Ideas? Thanks R.B.

Answer
 Hello R.B.:

Send me All the Model Numbers Off of the Mower and Off of the Engine, Please.  With these Numbers I can View a Breakdown of the Mower and the Engine and Better Assist you. However, you can Remove the Blower Housing(metal engine cover) and Disconnect the Shutoff Wire from the Coil. If the Engine Starts, then Either the New Switch has the Coil Grounded When it Should not be or One of the Safety Switches May be your Problem. The Shutoff Wire May have Burnt and be Grounding the Coil Also. Hope this Helps. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully

 John
