I have a friend, a 14 year old kid that his father left him and his mother, fortunately he left him a very cool 50" v-hull, I got all of the electronics working and can get the engine to run for a short time but have no information on the engine carb setting, Fuel type, butterfly valve setting etc. The engine has no marking on it at all to even research.  Would you have any information on 2 cycle engine set up or carb setting that would help? any help would be greatly appreciated, I thought I would ask the pro's and that would be you!! Thank you for your time, I look forward to your forthcoming reply, Have a great day, bill

 Hello Bill:

Sorry it took so Long to Get Back to You. Wanted to do some Research on this One. 1- Turn the Air/Fuel Mix Screws all the Way Clockwise until They Seat. Then Turn Counter Clockwise 1 1/2 Turns. 2- Start the Engine. 3- If Engine Failes to Start. Turn Counter Clockwise 1/2 Turn. NOTE: If you are Getting the Engine to Run for a Short Time, You May be able to Adjust from There. 4- Open the Throttle to High as you Turn the Main Air/Fuel Mix Screw Clockwise Until the Engine Smooths out (This Screw is Nearest the Engine). It will Have More Power and RPM Will Increase. 5- Return to idle 6. Adjust the Idle Air/Fuel Mix Screw so that when accelerating Engine Speed there is no Hesitating. 7- Then Set the Butterfly Valve to Idle.  Hope this Helps.

 Good Luck

Thank you very much. Do all of these engines run on 50 to one? Will my leaf blower fuel I mix work? Should the engine run with the butterfly totally closed? or totally open? I can only get it to run with it half way open. should it have a filter? It has a screw that adjust the idle- (Linkage adjustment) that is self explanatory, Your direction are very clear about fuel air, I will give it a try tomorrow, thank you so much for your help, Butterfly valve to Idle, please explain open of closed (Choke)?   I will recommend you to everyone, thanks bill

Answer
 Hello Bill

You are Very Welcome. Glad I can Help.  The Fuel Mixture is usually 32 to 1  on most Trimmer Engines. I dont Suggest using anything less. Its better to have Oil Smoke on a 2 Cycle Engine than none. The Rod Bearings get their Lubercation from the Oil in the Gas. Even on Engines that Suggest 50 to 1 Mixture I use 32 to 1 Mixture. OK, Butterfly Valve? To me a Butterfly Valve is the Control Valve that the Throttle Cable Operates. The Choke Valve explains itself.  When Starting Set Choke to Full. Attemp to Start until it tries ti Start then Put Choke to Half and Start Engine. Allow to Run 2 minutes. put the Choke to Full Open and then Set the Fuel Mixture Screws.  Hope this Helps.

 Good Luck
