Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): gas tank on lawnmower (Ariens), oil tank, push mower

Question
Me again. The make of the mower is an Ariens Mulch push mower with bager.  Model #911051, Ser. #000401. It's an "easy start/quiet running" machine. The code numbers on the Vector Tecumseh Engine are VLV50 500003, Ser. #2095B.  It says on the top of cover on the engine, a great big 5HP and right under that in very small numbers is 077640.  I sure hope you can help me.  It's a real mystery.
Again,
Evelyn

Question -
Hi,
I have an Ariens mulch push mower, which I bought from someone in my neighborhood last fall. A kid in the neighborhood mows my lawn with it and it's been great until... I was not home and the kid thought it needed oil (which I take care of along with the gas).  He and his father proceeded to empty the oil and put fresh oil into it(which was already in it).  He said the mower was sounding funny.  He proceeded to add gas, again which it didn't need and couldn't get the mower started.  He phoned me with the news, but - apparently was not truthful with me.  When I went to check the mower, which I had put into my garage after the incident, I noticed it had no gas in it.  I went to put gas in and it ran right through 'somewhere' along the botton toward the bottom of the oil tank?  Can't find a leak by feeling around.  The man who sold me the mower couldn't either.  We are both scratching our heads.  And the man I bought it from IS mechanically inclined.  Before I would bring it to a repair shop, I thought I'd right you to see if you had any suggestions.  Do you?
Thanks, Evelyn

 Hello Evelyn:

Send me the Make, Model, Type and Code Numbers Off of the Engine, Please. With these Numbers I can View a Breakdown of the Engine and Better Assist you. There are Several Different Engines on the Ariens Frames and Each has a Different Tank. Thanks.

 Respectfully

 John

Answer
 Hello Evelyn:

For a Breakdown of the Engine and Tank, go to this Addy http://www.outdoordistributors.com/ and Click on T. Then Click on Tecumseh. Then Click on Dont have Part Numbers. Enter the VLV50 Model Number. Then Scroll Down to the 500003 Engine. Open this File. It Looks like the Gas Line Could be Cracked/Split or the Tank Itself May have a Crack in it. Check the Nipple that the Gas Line Slides onto on the Tank. I have seen these Crack Around the Base of the Nipple. If this Is the Case, then you can get a New Tank from the Same Site the Breakdown is at. Hope this Helps. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully

 John
