Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Yard Man riding Lawn Tractor 674 series, rear pulley, square keys

Question
As sated above I have a Riding Lawn tractor and I was using it a while ago and I
shifted it into gear and it would not move, nor in reverse. So I downloaded the
manual and removed the rear drive belt and it had a large crack in it, so I
replaced it, and once started, same result. Is it possable the front belt is
also bad? In the past I would get stuff jamed in the belts (weeds, sticks, etc.)
and it would smoke the belts. I looked at the pulley comming off the engine and
there is basically two pullys one looks like it goes to the mower deck and the
other I assume is the front drive belt which goes to another pully which
contains the belt I originally replaced. I lifted the shifter access panel when
I engaged it into gear and there is no belts tuning from the front. My wife does
not want me to spend anymore futal money and wants me to take it in but I just
can't help thinking I can fix this......just do not know where to go with it.

Answer
Garth when you do belts on that tractor you have to replace both drive belts, as a set. This is so they wear evenly. That center pulley under the cover you pulled off is the varible speed pulley. Make sure the center of that pulley moves up and down. Also check all the idler pulleys (just make sure they turn). Afterdoing all that if it still doesn't move check the wooddruff key on the rear pulley and make sure it isn't sheared. Last but not least if all of the above checks out you probably have a bad transaxle, and they're about $300 new.One more thing also check the square keys on the rear wheels. If one of those goes bad it won't move either. GOOD LUCK
