Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Murray Self Propel, muffler shop, time and patience

Question
We were sooo close! Here is the thing. Either I have a axle from another lawn mower or the parts list is wrong. From what we were able to determine, after checking with 2 different shops there actually is no shear pin (32), at least not on my axle. The axle has these two knots or humps which catches the pulley wheel and keeps it from rotating. They have been sheared off. Rather than spending a second mortgage for a new axle, I went to a muffler shop with the bright idea of having them weld these two humps or knots back in place which would hopefully fix my problem. Together, the mechanic and I came up with an even better idea. We decided to drill a hole thru the axle, hammer a tension pin in hole and then grinding it down so the wheel would fit over the ends. BAM! That did it! This mower has more pull than a tom cat in the climbing gear!!  My total out of pocket expense: 62 cents!! The mechanic didnt charge me anything because he has a similar problem with his mower and this gave him an idea on how to fix it. Way to go John! Thanks again

Heeeeeeeeeee's right again! I think 32 has been sheared plum off. How do I get the rest of it out and put the new one in?

Question -
I'm trying to get my front pull self propelled Murray lawn mower to self propel. I have just replaced the belt. The wheels spin freely when the handle is pushed down, but once they hit the ground, there is no pull. However the belt continues to rotate. I found a plastic wheel that the belt glides around on that has 3 different settings. I moved it up(or back)a notch hoping that would fix my problem but it didn't. Then I found the teeth on one of the front wheels was worn out. I replaced it, but that didn't help either. Got any other suggestions? The model number is 20706X92B Its a Murray 3 in 1 6HP self propelled rear bagger. Thanks again for your time and patience!

 Hello Steve:

Did you Check the Spring Pins? Go to this Addy http://www.outdoordistributors.com/ and Click on M. Then Select Murray. Then Select Cant Find Owners Manual. Then Enter the Model Numbers and then Download the File for your Mower. In the File where you see the Breakdown of the Ground Drive; look at #s 29, 32 and 33. It Sounds like the Spring Pin that Holds the Axle Pulley has Sheared. Hope this Helps. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.

 Hello Steve:

Thanks for the Compliment. You need to Disassemble the Ground Drive on the Pulley Side of the Mower. Then Slide the Axle Out of the Mower Frame. Once the Axle is Out , take a Punch Set and Remove the Pieces of Spring Pin from the Axle and the Pulley. Then Reassemble the Ground Drive and Install the New Spring Pin when Reassembling the Ground Drive. The Breakdown will Assist you in this Repair. If you have a Problem, Just Email me and I will Assist you More. Hope this Helps. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.
