Mitsubishi Repair: No Fuel No Fire, eagle talon tsi, crank angle sensor

Question
I bought a 90 Eagle Talon TSI 2.0 turbo 5spd... It doesn't get any fire and the fuel pump isn't kicking in... I was told ECU? but I'm going to be sure before I buy a 280.00 dollar ECU from the parts store (yeah I know it's high, but it's lifetime warranty and it's local and fast).

Just so you know, I started out with a Chilton Manual... not alot of help with troubleshooting electrical.

I checked the caps in the ECU... they're fine.
I have 2 ECUs neither seem to work. This is why I think it might be something else.

Answer
Hello,
Check all your fusible links and relays.  It's possible your MPI fuse (I believe it's attached to the positive battery cable) has blown.  That cuts power to your fuel system, which will affect your ignition system too.  If you've tried a couple of ECUs and neither of them work, then it's probably not an ECU problem.  Check all your harnesses and your ignition coil.

Have your timing checked.  If your timing is off, your ECU will not send a signal to allow fuel or spark to your engine.  It's possible you have a malfunctioning crank angle sensor.  If that sensor has a problem, your car will think your timing is off, and there again will not allow firing.

The only good manual for troubleshooting eletrical issues is the factory service manual.  That has all schematics and tolerances for voltages and resistenaces.  But check with the folks that are selling that ECU locally for $280.  See if they will let you buy it , test and return it within 24 hours for a full refund if it doesn't work.  If you can test your car with a new (rebuilt) ECU, and your car still doesn't work, you can at least rule out a faulty ECU all together.
Good luck!
