Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Gas push mower wont start, spark plug cable, coil wire

Question
Hi there,

Boy you lost me. Do I pull the cable off, give it a pull and then look for a spark?

Then what do you mean try and start it with starter fluid?

Question -
I live in Iowa and we have had a heat wave for the last month. So I haven't had to mow. However, tonight I went out to mow and primed the engine with 3 pumps and pulled the cord...Nothing. Pulled it 4 more times nothing, not even an indication that it wanted to start.

So removed the spark plug cable and cleaned off the end of the plug, put it back on, pulled the cord....Nothing!!

Any thoughts? Do I need to replace the spark plug? Its been about 2 years. Any other things I can try?

Thanks

 Hello Ryan:

Check for Spark at the Plug. If there is Spark, then Try to Start the Mower with Starter Fluid. If it Starts, then the Carburator need to be Cleaned and Rebuilt. Send me the Model Numbers Off of the Engine, Please. With these I can look at a Diagram of the Engine and Better Assist you. Hope this Helps. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.

Answer
 Hello Rayn:

Sorry about that. I forget Some of the People I Answer Questions for have Never Done this. Take a Wire about 12' Long and Strip Both Ends. Take One End and Wrap it Around the Plud Threads. Attach the Other End to the Bolt Above the Plug. Attach the Coil Wire to the Plug and then Turn the Engine while Watching the Gapped End of the Plug for Spark. if you have Spark, then Remove the Wire and Replace the Plug. Spray a Small Amount of Starter Fluid into the Air Filter and then Try to Start the Engine. If it Starts and Quits, then the Carburator needs Cleaning and Rebuilding. Hope this Helps. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.
