Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Adjusting, clutch action, drive pulley

Question
I bought a used Sears LTX 1000 riding mower 917.272432 20HP 42" deck.  Very jumpy startup  (wheelies without ANY intention). Close spacing between braking action and clutch action.  Now shofting harder and harder. No problem shofting when engine off.  Could this be resid torque on tranny at a stop?

Answer
 Hello R. H.:

Yes. If the Engine is is Trying to Turn the Transaxle Drive Pulley it will cause the Problem you Described. Reset the Clutch/Brake Linkage. To View a Breakdown of this Mower, Go to this Addy http://www3.sears.com/ and Follow the Direction to the View Parts Diagram Page. Look at the Ground Drive Parts Diagram. This should Assist you in Making the Adjustments. Hope this Helps. Let me know what Happens, Please.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully
