Motorcycle Repair: fuel tanks, fuel tanks, fuel valve

Question
hi chris,
could you please tell me how to clean the rust and gunk out of the fuel tanks of a 93 virago that has been sitting in a garage un-ridden for 3 years?
         thank you,
             mike.

Answer
Hi Mike.
The best thing that you can do is to make sure that the fuel is all gone from the tank and it is dry, then remove the gas cap,  fuel sensor and fuel valve from the tank.

Then just reseal the tank.  The reseal compound will seal out the varnish, the rust and anything else that is in there.

The whole process takes a little over 24 hours (including drying time.

Make sure you do a complete cleaning of the carbs as well.

Good luck.
