Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): mower smoking and turns off quick, straight gas, engine numbers

Question
Hi!
Bought a Yardman, Model # 11A 43907551663710, this past spring and have less then 20 hours use on it. Purchased in the spring and put 10w 30 oil in it since it came dry. It does not take a gas/oil mix, straight gas. Went to use it the other day and got about 20 minutes of use when it started blowing white smoke out of the exhaust and then conked. Subsequent starts have done the same thing. Checked the oil and put some in, not sure if it was low or not...no measuring stick in the oil but I filled it to what I believe is capacity.
Went to Yardmans website and sent them an email. Not sure if I filled out the warranty or not, pretty sure I did. Don't have the receipt...not my style. Can't believe after studying Consumer Reports website and buying this mower that this happened! Did I do something wrong?
Is this mower defective?
I can only imagine that we did something wrong....our lawn (twin home) is a postage stamp, literally and my neighbor's lawn whom my son cuts once every 10 days is equally small.
It had to be something we did or didn't do.
Your assistance is greatly appreciated.
Thank you,

Answer
 Hello Tate:

Does the Oil have a Gas Smell to it?  Send me the Make, Model, Type and Code Numbers Off the Engine, Please. This will let me se a Diagram of this Engine. It sounds like the Engine is Overfilled with Oil or the Crankcase Vent May Not be Working. With the Engine Numbers I can Better Assist you in a Diagnostic of the Engine. Thanks.

 Respectfully

 John
