Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Lawn Mower, craftsman mowers, eager 1

Question
I have 2 Craftsman mowers that have experienced the same problem in the past 2 months. After running perfectly, the mower sputtered out.  When I attempt restart, it starts right away and sounds fine for 2 seconds, then immediately dies.
I had one repaired by a handyman who says he takes apart the carbourator (I think)and cleans a little tube that allows fuel to go through. At mid summer, this should not be stale fuel causing the problem.  Can I do this simple fix myself?  I have an old power drive Craftsman II Eager-1 5.5 HP mower and another Craftsman 6.0 HP (manual)that was just repaired.

Answer
 Hello John:

When the Engine Quits,  Check for Fire at the Plug. If you ahev Fire at the Plug, then the Carburator Requires Soaking Overnight to Clean the Varnish that the Gas has Formed Out of the Ports and Passages that Supply the Jet with Gas. If No fire at the Plug, then the Coil/Ignition Module is Bad. Hope this Helps. Let me know what Happens, Please.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully

 John
