Toyota: Celica front axle, celica gt, celica

I am looking for a car to buy. A 1987 Celica GT has a broken front passenger axle. The owner says this is a common problem. Is this true? What would cause this axle to break and can any other parts be affected? Thank you.

where do you live? I'm in Switzerland, so situations may be different, but the model I think is quite the same, it's the Celica GT with 3SGE engine 1st generation, the car is coded ST162. Never heard about this problem! Celicas T16 are very reliable!

Lift the car and have a look, if it was an accident you'll see it, there will be scratches & signs. Otherwise may not be used in a good way.
